Malta International Airport has appointed Michael Hoeferer as its new chairman.

Born in 1959, Mr Hoeferer is a graduate in economics, history and public relations. He began his career with Austrian Airlines in the marketing and planning division, where he was later responsible for marketing strategy before becoming vice-president in 1994.

In 2001, Mr Hoeferer joined Vienna International Airport and was appointed senior executive vice president for airline and terminal services.

Mr Hoeferer has already served as MIA chairman, between 2003 and 2007.
