Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers is set to be appointed as Liverpool’s new manager this week following talks with the Anfield club, according to a BBC report yesterday.

Rodgers had refused a request to meet with Liverpool following Kenny Dalglish’s sacking earlier this month, but the Reds made a renewed effort to speak to the former Reading and Watford chief after holding discussions with Wigan Athletic’s Roberto Martinez last week.

The 39-year-old Northern Irishman is believed to have spoken to Liverpool officials yesterday and the BBC reported the Merseyside Reds are ready to pay between £4 and £5 million in compensation to Swansea to secure his services.
