The strategic goals set out in the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for Malta are translated into the following action-based and outcome-oriented measures, which are grouped into 18 thematic areas that must be achieved by 2020.
Theme 13: Environmental Assessment (Code EA 1-2)
EA1: The carrying out of environment impact assessments (EIA), strategic environment assessments (SEA) and appropriate assessments (AA) ensures that potential adverse and significant effects of projects, plans or programmes and activities on biodiversity are prevented/mitigated.
EA2: Environment assessments are undertaken with due consideration of established guidelines by the CBD and other multilateral environmental agreement (MEAs) and the Natura 2000 sectoral guidelines issued by the Commission.
Mepa published the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for Malta on February 28, 2012. The action plan aims to set Malta on the right track to meet its own biodiversity and other environmental objectives, as well as its international commitments, by 2020.
