Alison Bezzina completes training in social marketing
Melita’s brand and communications manager Alison Bezzina has successfully completed training in social marketing by the eMarketing Association, becoming Malta’s first Certified Social Marketing Associate.
As part of her brand and communications role, Ms Bezzina, who is also a resident blogger on timesofmalta.com, coordinates communications on Melita’s Facbeook page which currently has well over 30,000 fans.
The page is updated and monitored daily as a joint effort by the marketing and customer care teams. The social media effort is part of the Melita’s strategy to increase customer touch points, giving customers opportunities to contact the company as well as enabling the company to respond quicker to customer feedback.
The eMarketing Association (eMA) is an association of emarketing professionals.
Members include governments, companies, professionals, and students involved with the emarketing arena.

Although I must congratulate Ms. Bezzina for her achievement , I cannot say the same for the company she works for. Through personal experiences I must say i still have bad taste of the way Melita constantly tries to sell packages with the tiny wording on the contract that then you have to be tied with it for the duration of the specified time, even though the service at times is unacceptable.
Further to this, after the company has been supplying service to Malta for the 10 to 15 years there is no Authority checking that they are removing the huge amount of redundant cabling which was laid all over buildings around Malta. This simply unacceptable.
People have paid for this rubbish to be removed and it is still being piled up by newer cables laid on top of the old one, same as GO.
I urge people to notice these things and to authorities to take action and remove all the ugliness hanging around property that cost a fortune to people to make look good.

On a personal level, congratulations to Ms Bezzina.
However (there is always a "however", isn't there?)
Social Marketing is "is the planning and implementation of programs designed to bring about social change using concepts from commercial marketing." (http://www.social-marketing.org/sm.html)
It is usually employed for beneficial social change such as getting people not to smoke in public areas, persuading them to use seat belts, or prompting to make them follow speed limits.
The thought of an aggressive company like Melita making use of such techniques sends shivers up and down my spine.

Well that is quite a good point, Mr. Laiviera. Luckily Melita are not yet employing rats with Melita logos to bring about news of offers through our toilet seat...
