The Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises – GRTU is calling for an extension of the deadline by which businesses that applied for the €15 million suspended energy scheme can complete their installations.

It said it was holding Malta Enterprise responsible for the commercial damage, delays and any unjust implication of guilt that innocent parties could have suffered.

Malta Enterprise temporarily suspended the scheme saying it discovered that certain quotations submitted by beneficiaries could be “in bad faith”. These were being investigated.

The scheme supports companies investing in energy-saving measures and alternative energy sources. About 250 firms had been approved grants that were now on hold.

The GRTU complained that businessmen were being called to the police headquarters and investigated as though they were criminals.
