Malta’s first ‘dog park’ was inaugurated yesterday, giving animals plenty to bark about.

The 1,000-square metre facility at Ta’ Qali has a range of play equipment for dogs, including cover tunnels, weave poles and canine walk ramps.

The park will be open between 6.30 a.m. and 11.30 p.m. during the summer months.

The Resources Ministry said the park followed a string of other initiatives to boost animal welfare, including setting up the Animal Welfare Department, the provision of a 24-hour animal ambulance and the opening of Ċentru San Franġisk.

The ministry also pointed out that the process to microchip dogs had started, while work had begun to erect new shelters for karrozzini horses in Valletta.
