Malta Enterprise last week facilitated the participation of 20 Maltese construction and project management companies at Libya Build 2012 in Tripoli.

With infrastructure projects among the Libya’s prio-rities after months of unrest, the five-day Libya Build provided the ideal setting for enterprises looking at opportunities within a market that is seeking to establish itself as one of the most advanced in the region.

Maltese companies’ offerings featured at Libya Build, included lifts and electromechanical systems, construction materials, furniture and fittings, environmental solutions, turnkey and project management, paints, printing, aluminium works and fixtures like garages, doors and windows.

The companies reported keen interest in their propositions and are following-up the leads.

Salem Megadmi, the Malta Enterprise representative at the commercial office in Tripoli, who was also present, held several meetings to promote the trade opportunities the island offers to Libyan companies and the assistance companies operating in Malta may benefit from.

Libyan Economy Minister Ahmed Al-Koushli, who opened the event, made it a point to visit the Malta pavilion where he also met Maltese Ambassador Victor Camilleri and the Malta Enterprise representative in Libya.

Malta Enterprise also organised an information session for Maltese companies with the Organisation for Development of Administrative Centres, which oversees a range of strategic and infrastructural projects. There was also a networking session for Maltese and Austrian businesses in collaboration with the Austrian Embassy in Libya.

The Euro-Med region had the strongest presence among the 650 participating companies.

Malta Enterprise’s participation at Libya Build was the latest initiative in a series to strengthen the commercial links between the countries. It will accompany Maltese firms to the Libyan Healthcare Exhibition in September.

The latter event is of interest to private hospitals and clinics, pharmaceutical companies, suppliers of medical equipment and products, and service providers.
