Just weeks after returning from a third successful visit to Australia, where they again performed live at the Bluesfest festival, leading Maltese world music band Tribali launched its third album, The Traveller, during a press conference at Medasia.

The 13-track album promises to be a continuation or rather, an evolvement of their previous work, which has been well received both locally and abroad.

While retaining their typical sound with the use of instruments now synonymous with Tribali such as the sitar, didgeridoo, morchunga and various percussive instruments, The Traveller also features the hang, nylon and 12-string guitars, trumpet as well as the evident use of more vocals.

Commenting on the album, the band said: “The Traveller is probably harmonically richer than the previous albums as we steered away from the mono-tonal constraints, giving us more room to develop our songwriting.

“We also made use of other genres crossing over to world music, giving us more freedom of expression and avoiding the pigeonhole screening labels enjoy so much.”

The album, in fact, features a crossover of various elements, ranging from psychedelia, dub reggae, Ska, Flamenco, Folk, chilled and uptempo grooves, all of which have been natural transitions in Tribali’s evolving world music timbre.

The album, which will be available worldwide on September 29, was produced at Jagged House studios by Howard Keith, also responsible for the production of Tribali’s previous two albums.

The Traveller will be available from over 70 different digital portals including iTunes, Spotify and Napster, as well as being released in various territories.

A deal has been signed with a number of partners including Sony UK, music publishers for all Jagged House artists. The first release will be Tribali’s followed by all the artists to be effected by the end of summer.

Tribali has also digitally released a compilation album, Festa, which includes the best cuts off their previous two albums. A physical release will follow later this summer.

Tribali will perform tracks from the new album as well as past favourites live at a concert at the National Park in Ta’ Qali on June 29.
