Even during its launch performances at St James Cavalier last November, it was already evident that Renzo Spiteri’s Silence Sounds and Spaces would lead the Maltese musician to bigger things.

A sound and vision experience held within an intimate space, the performance relied as much on the audience’s silent presence as it did on Spiteri’s unique way of coaxing extraordinary sounds out of his inventive array of instruments – from terracotta pots to stones and traditional clay drums – and the majestic Neolithic ambience the tracks were inspired by and created in.

“A chilling, mysterious, and forward-thinking musical journey that deserves a top spot on the world music/new age charts” is how Canada-based music journalist Matthew Forss described Silence Sounds and Spaces in his review. He gave the album a 5/5 rating.

Starting this week and running through to June, Spiteri will kick off a series of performances of Silence Sounds and Spaces in Britain.

Spiteri spoke of the show’s visual aspect: “Through the use of live visuals by Winston De Giorgio of Live Grafix and Daniel Cilia’s powerful imagery of Neolithic sites, I have re-adapted the visual aspect of the performance to better suit a foreign audience, thereby exposing it to a fresh audio-visual postcard of Malta”.

Silence Sounds and Spaces is managed by Musiconnect Ltd.
