Five open water swimmers from Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club – Keith Bartolo, Roberto Demicoli, Samuel Attard, Gilbert Bartolo and Andrew Grech – will travel to Tunisia on Sunday to take part in a long-distance relay.
The 1,400m marathon is the idea of renowned Tunisian long-distance swimmer Nejib Belhedi, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Tunisian Army, who wanted to send a positive message to the world about the region following his country’s revolution in 2011.
The purpose of the event is to promote peace and solidarity.
It starts from the Tunisian/Algerian border in the Tunisian North Sea and proceeds to the Tunisian/Libyan border in the Southern Tunisian Sea.
