The Matsec examination board will give special consideration to students who may have been distressed by a mistake in their A level philosophy paper.

Philosophy students were confused when a section of their exam paper referred to topics they had not studied.

The Matsec board said yesterday that it regretted the mistake.

It said that on being informed of the error, the Matsec support unit convened the paper setters’ panel and issued an errata corrige with appropriate questions.

“This was handed to the candidates halfway through the examination and they were informed that an extra 75 minutes were being given to compensate for the time lost. From the feedback received after the examination, candidates were satisfied with this solution,” it said.
