Go to double mobile internet speed nationwide
Go today unveiled its newly established download speed, reaching 42Mbps. This is double the speed on offer by any local provider today, it said, adding that this was possible through a major overhaul of the 3G mobile network.
Chief commercial officer Yiannos Michaelides said now offer the best mobile internet experience on the island, backed by GO's well-established fixed internet service, which is constantly being improved through the on-going roll-out of fibre.
Go also officially launched its new mobile internet campaign with the slogan: 'Join the revolution'.
Mr Michaelides referred to the €100 million Gois investing on new infrastructure to strengthen its network with the ultimate aim to enhance Go's consumer experience.
Go is offering:
Free mobile internet to all pay as you go customers every time they top-up with €10 or more.
6 months of free mobile internet for those buying a new Smartphone, choosing from a range of Smartphones starting from €99.
Free Smartphones and free mobile internet are also available with Pay Monthly packages starting from €15 per month.
The new iPad, which is the only device currently in the market to experience the maximum download speeds offered by 42Mbps.
Advantageous mobile data plans to customers subscribed to its HomePack and other multiplay packages.
Free mobile Wi-Fi device, that enables customers to enjoy connectivity without the need to subscribe to multiple data plans, providing connectivity to 10 simultaneous users at one go.

It's not really a revolution though.... More an improvement in download speed

GO needs to seriously upgrade their phone lines infrastructure so that their broadband packages are accessible to all. I was told that I could only access 16MB of download speed instead of the full 20MB since my home is located far away from the closest exchange. These limitations are obsolete nowadays!!

Another way of limiting the damage to customers' credit would be to introduce a capped daily data charge eg. 1eu/day. The 7c/60Kb rate is ridiculous with today's data transfer rates.

GO should be ashamed, their policy is to rip their clients from pay as you go credit. Instead of offering a "faster" service, they should focus on implementing methods that would inform pay-as-you go customers when their internet bundle is about to expire. Their current system is simple, the customer pays to check the remaining bundle and when the bundle expiry GO charges excessively for the service. Where are the Watchdog authorities when one needs them?

This could end up costing 367.50 eu PER MINUTE if by mistake you forget to renew the internet bundle .. I had the free 10 days internet, forgot to switch off packet data on the 10th day, and Go skimmed off all my credit within a couple of minutes of inadvertent use. It would be useful to be able to disable the 7c per 60Kb rate totally as this is just a ripoff and a way to con customers. Maybe having different AP names for data pack and regular data.

Yeah right! In February Go said that they will upgrade to 21Mbps- http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20120226/business-news/Go-set-to-increase-mobile-internet-speeds-to-21-Mbps.408482
Then Vodafone Launches that they will upgrade their system from 21Mbps to 42Mbps.
Funnily enough GO now says that they are going to put their speeds up to 42Mbps?!?
And Stating that - “This is double the speed on offer by any local provider today, it said, adding that this was possible through a major overhaul of the 3G mobile network”.
At least this truly shows who is the leader in the telecommunications industry in Malta!
Vodafone Power to you ;)

sounds like blah blah, Vodafone have the same exorbitant data charges as Go should you inadvertently let your data bundle expire. Not much use 42Mbps if nobody can afford it.

"The new iPad, which is the only device currently in the market to experience the maximum download speeds offered by 42Mbps."
This is not true, Samsung Galaxy tab 8 also has a maximum of 42mbps.

CAN 'GO' EXPLAIN WHAT SPEED WILL THERE BE FOR THE AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD WHO HAS THE MINIMUM SPEED? SECONDLY IF I TOP UP HOW LONG WOULD THE 10EUROS LAST.
Michael Camileri
May 24th 2012, 08:41
Ho can anyone say how long 10EUR will last... depends what sites you visit and if you choose to display images...
EUR10 is 1Gb.... the speed of the download will not affect how the 1Gb is spent... rather the sites you visit will determine this. When opening a website you are downloading information.

Without asking i was told by go yesterday that my contract is up and i am free to renew of migrate. Maybe melita can learn from this and not hold their client hostage to legal proceedings and by insisting that one should write to them to discontinue using their services if that what they call them.

I am one of them. 3 euros off my topup while trying to connect to the FREE service.
Not worth complaining, to no avail as they filter calls letting Go operators take the call and do nothing about it. Xorta bla refund tibqa!! Better not connecting at all as you said, once the free limit is reached there goes your credit drained without notice. Thanks but no thanks Go

Go blocks dns of torrents, which leads to bad download speed if any.

May 23rd 2012, 20:39
This is not true.I have been a Go customer from the very beginning and I can assure you that I have downloaded thousands of torrents at breakneck speeds. Maybe you should learn how to tweak and optimize your torrent programme.

Agree with you on this point. Some top officials at GO seem to be letting their company down in this crucially important issue. Why should a shop not provide GO cards? Could the person at GO responsible for this kindly explain the situation to his superiors and GO stakeholders?
Hopefully this is not part of some subtle plot to undermine this excellent company....Remember we are in corrupt Malta where anything can happen!
Hopefully the CEO will investigate very seriously!

GO is certainly far ahead of the competition. I'm glad I stuck to them and did not heed the entreaties of other providers at City Gate Valletta!

Not just Qawhra. I live in the Paola/Fgura area and never got past 4 Mbps while paying for 12 Mpbs. It was ultimately the reason I removed the service.
