The MUT has declared an industrial dispute with the government following its failure to appoint Learning Support Assistants.

The union said the LSAs graduated in November 2011 and their interview results for LSA II were published in the beginning of February 2012. At a meeting held with the Ministry of Education the minister had promised that the appointments were to be issued last week.

"In spite of continuous representations by the MUT, the government has not acted upon the situation thereby leaving a considerable number of LSAs possessing all the requisites for regular employment with conditions of temporary workers," the union said.

"Moreover, the Call for Applications for LSA I has not been issued in spite of the fact that the individuals involved completed the requisite course in April 2011."

The union said it will order industrial action within 48 hours if the situation remains unresolved.
