The 16th edition of Din l-Art Ħelwa’s Bir Miftuħ International Music Festival opens on Friday.

Musicians will perform in the medieval ambiance of the church of Santa Marija of Bir Miftuħ.

This year the programme features a string recital by the Kalypso Ensemble on Friday, with the support of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute.

The ensemble comprises violinists Klara Nazaj and Giulia Tavano, Ina Georgieva on viola, Rahia Angela Awalom on violoncello and Donata Paduano on doublebass. They will perform works by Rossini, Haydn and Webern;

A classical guitar recital by Ulrich Rasche will be staged on June 1, thanks to the German Embassy.

A string recital by violinist Agnès Pyka and Edouard Sapey-Triomphe on the violoncello will be held on June 9, courtesy of the French Embassy and the Alliance Française.

All concerts start at 8 p.m. Tickets for each concert cost €20 and include refreshments after the performance.
