Richard Cachia Caruana, Malta's permanent representative in Brussels, said this afternoon he will be filing a libel suit against Labour MP Evarist Bartolo.

Mr Cachia Caruana said in a statement he will be taking court action because of Mr Bartolo's 'blatant lies' to personally attack him on the PL's media.

Mr Bartolo overstepped all limits, Mr Cachia Caruana said, adding that the attack was another in a series by Labour MPs on the PL's media in the past days.

In a separate statement, the PN condemned the attacks and said it expected Labour leader Joseph Muscat to do the same.

Mr Bartolo, the PN said, also attacked the judiciary showing Labour's lack of respect towards the country's independent institutions.

It said Labour was following a strategy of systematic attacks on people who were giving the country a useful service. Dr Muscat tried to play the moderate but he surrounded himself with extremists with whom he felt comfortable and whose advice he took.
