McDonald’s outlet in Valletta, arguably the most popular eating place in the capital, will not close down for good tomorrow, with the fast-food chain saying there was a change of plans just 24 hours after announcing its closure.
Referring to “last-minute developments”, McDonald’s said its restaurant in Republic Street would “for the time being, remain open”.
When contacted about the change of plans, a spokesman for the company said that ongoing negotiations were taking place.
Later this year, the US chain will open its flagship restaurant – planned to be the largest – in a key location in central Sliema, in the De Tigné Complex, opposite the Sliema ferries.
On Thursday the company said that the Valletta outlet would close down on Sunday.
An Appeals Court ruling had found there had been a violation of the property’s rent agreement.
