Kate Gonzi received an orchid plant from Mosta scouts as she and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi visited Tarġa Battery in Mosta on Sunday.

This military battery was built by the British forces in 1887 to help strengthen the Victoria Lines. After years of neglect it has been passed on by the Land Ministry to the Mosta local council, which has been cleaning this very big area for the last six weeks. The Mosta Boy Scouts also helped in the clean-up. Thousands visited the battery during Sunday’s open day. Various activities were held such as exhibitions about World War II and guided tours while the scout group organised bridge building, absailing and face painting for all age groups.

The council, headed by the mayor, Shirley Farrugia, intends to carry out restoration works so they can be enjoyed by all associations in Mosta and by the public.
