The strategic goals set out in the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) for Malta are translated into the following action-based and outcome-oriented measures, which are grouped into 18 thematic areas, and must be achieved by 2020.
Theme 8: Pro-biodiversity businesses and a green conomy (Code BE1-3)
BE1: Increased cooperation and involvement of the private sector and businesses in biodiversity conservation is encouraged, including the promotion of private sector voluntary initiatives/green business schemes, the support/uptake of pro-biodiversity business projects and by including biodiversity safeguards in corporate plans and programmes.
BE2: Eco-efficient facilities, which adopt the cleaner production approach, and use environmentally sound and innovative technologies, are increasingly established.
BE3: The economic valuation of ecosystem services is assessed and integrated into green accounting and reporting systems at a national level by 2020.
Mepa published the draft National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) for Malta on February 28. The NBSAP aims to set Malta on the right track to meet its own biodiversity and other environmental objectives, as well as its international commitments, by 2020.
