Pink readers are invited to “like” their monthly women’s magazine on Facebook and stand a chance of winning the new iPad, plus a series of other surprise prizes.

Its Facebook page, being launched with the May issue out with The Times tomorrow, is offering readers an opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas, to enjoy more interaction with the magazine and to go behind the scenes, access its snippets of gossip and product information and travel down memory lane through its past issues.

To win the new iPad, courtesy of SG Solutions, in its launch competition, readers are invited to send in group photos that also feature Pink magazine to pink@timesofmalta.com. The May edition normally features the bikini shoot and the stick-thin models that promote the skimpy swimwear. This month, however, aware that the media and fashion could have a negative impact on women’s body image and, sometimes, even lead to eating disorders, Pink wants to convey another message.

It has opted for a more curvaceous size 12 model in its fashion pages to show that, although most model agencies can consider a UK 8 to be a “plus size”, a fuller woman can work as well.

To hammer the message home, its health pages talk of models actually dying from anorexia while the lifestyle section focuses on celebrity mums and the pressure their perfect post-pregnancy bodies put on mere mortals.

From next month, the editors of 19 worldwide editions of Vogue have also pledged to use only healthy models in an attempt to shift fashion’s approach to body image.
