Approaching elections can bring unexpected bonuses. One of them arrived in the form of a personalised letter (“Għażiż Victor”, no less...) from Tonio Fenech, Minister of Finance, Economy and Investment, devotee of Our Lady and No 1 Arsenal fan.
Leaving aside, for the moment, the fact that I do not know how the minister obtained my personal details, since I never gave any approval for them to be used in this manner;
Leaving aside, also for the moment, the fact that the minister reminded me that he had given me an increase of over €19.21 per week since 2008, thus inevitably reminding me of the €600 per week he and his Cabinet colleagues awarded themselves in secret;
Also leaving aside the fact that the letter was accompanied by an invitation to a “coffee morning mal-ministru” when I was under the impression that only the ħamalli Laburisti did that kind of thing;
What impressed me most was the fact that this short letter had at least 17 errors in spelling and syntax. It seems that the minister could not find a proofreader who would do the work “as a favour”.
