Magistrate Carol Peralta is back in action in Malta after having served for eight years on tribunals in the former Yugoslavia.

Dr Peralta was appointed magistrate in 1990 and in 2003 was assigned to the UN Interim Mission in Kosovo, serving as an international judge with jurisdiction over war crimes and organised crime.

He will be taking over all pending cases left by former magistrate Jacqueline Padovani, who was appointed a judge earlier this month, excluding those cases involving minors.
