Gozo currently has its own version of Popeye Village. A film set for the Russian film Fort Ross has been built near the salt pans close to Qbajjar Bay. Film-shooting is due to start in the coming days.

The film set shows a small boat-yard in California some 200 years years ago in a re-creation of the scene of a Russian settlement.

The film is about a group of  television journalists who go back in time to uncover what happened in the failed settlement.

The film-shooting is being carried out with assistance by the Malta Film Commission.

The film set is not expected to survive beyond the film-shooting, since it would have to be dismantled as this area is prone to very rough sea which would demolish it anyway.
