On April 24 The Times carried practically a full page entitled The Cross of George – Much Ado About Nothing, showing the George Cross and the letter of King George VI addressed to the people of Malta. The Anglophobe responsible for this insulting contribution is the usual Norman E. Grech. I feel that calling this award for bravery a taint and a piece of metal is an insult to all of us who survived the dreadful bombing and starvation.
It seems to me that whenever an opportunity arises, Mr Grech does his utmost to display his hatred for anything that is British.
During the past few years he has expressed the same anti-British sentiments on many occasions, and every time his articles are run in The Times.
I feel it is a shame that The Times, which was founded by Lord Gerald Strickland and was published every day through the war in spite of all the difficulties, and which continued to flourish under his daughter Mabel, encourages the likes of Mr Grech. Both the founder of the newspaper and his daughter must be turning in their graves.
