A Labour government would give Gozitan students studying in Malta the opportunity to sit for exams in Gozo, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said yesterday.

Identifying children with particular problems

If elected, his government would also work to fight illiteracy and provide people with the necessary training to become employable, he said during an activity organised by the Labour Youth Forum.

Dr Muscat said a Labour government would invest in teachers, incentivise research and encourage pluralism to introduce choice and competitiveness at tertiary level.

He pledged not to touch stipends but would instead strengthen them and create a structure to identify children with particular problems so that they could be addressed.

Dr Muscat reiterated that a Labour government would lower the voting age for local council elections from 18 to 16.
