Diane Borg, the 100m and 200m national record holder, has already posted some encouraging times this season, running 12.13 seconds for the 100m and 24.86 seconds for the 200m.

Thanks to the support of the Malta Amateur Athletics Association and the Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC), Borg laun-ched her international season in Italy earlier this week in convincing fashion.

On Wednesday, she ran the 100m in 11.96 seconds (though assisted by a generous favourable wind). However, most importantly, she recorded a legal 24.44 seconds in the 200m, only 0.17secs shy of the national record she set for the distance during last year’s Games of the Small States of Europe which were held in Liechtenstein.

The next competition for Borg, winner of the 2011 Sportswoman of the Year award, will be at the National Athletics Champion-ships this weekend.

Borg is also supported by the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport through the Athletes Support Programmes.
