A €2 million project aimed at promoting activities in rural zones was launched this afternoon by Tourism Minister Mario de Marco.
The project, Malta Goes Rural, will be led by the Malta Tourism Authority and is being co-financed by the EU.
The MTA will be launching a number of walks in rural villages and the surrounding countryside. It will also carry out embellishment works.
One such intervention is at a garden in Zurrieq which is being rebuilt through an investment of €460,000. Because of its strategic position, many of the southern villages can be seen from the garden so interpretation panels giving information about the villages and historic sites which characterise the area will be put up.
Other interventions will take place at tal-Maqluba Square in Qrendi, in front of the Providenza Chapel in Siggiewi and at Misrah Hlantun, which is between Safi and Zurrieq.
