A woman charged with importing half a kilogramme of heroin which she allegedly hid between her breasts was this morning remanded in custody after pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police Inspector Victor Aquilina said 35-year-old mother of two Nadia Rapinett, from St Pauls Bay, received €500 for importing the drugs, something she did because of her dire financial situation.

He said she was caught by police shortly after arriving in Malta. She cooperated with the police and helped carry out a controlled delivery leading to the arrest of three men, aged between 27 and 41, from St Paul's Bay, Marsascala and Safi. They are still under investigation.

Defence lawyer Joseph Brincat requested bail on grounds that she had cooperated with police, that fact that she had two children and that her cooperation led to three others being arrested.
