P.Cutajar and Co Ltd, one of Malta’s longest established importers and distributors of fast moving consumer goods, has relocated to San Gwann. Tony Zammit Cutajar, chief executive officer, said: “This is the fourth move in our history that spans nearly 150 years. The founder Paul Cutajar set up shop in 30 Kingsway, Valletta (presently Republic Street) in 1865. In the early 1900s the company moved to 12 St. Paul Street in Valletta where it remained until 1985. Feeling the need to centralise all our operations, we moved to purpose built premises in Mriehel. Now we have moved yet again to premises in San Ġwann Industrial Estate.”

The new premises will provide a bigger and better platform for P.Cutajar to grow its core business of importation and distribution. With an extensive portfolio that includes leading brands such as Ferrero, Lavazza, Bacardi-Martini, Dewar’s, Pasqua and J.P. Chenet, as well as the Solaris sunglasses franchise in the retail sector, P.Cutajar has become a household name.

P. Cutajar can trace its origins to commodities trading, shipping and coal bunkering in the mid-19th century, when founder Paul Cutajar established a business in an office adjacent to his home in Valletta. In 1880, he became Martini & Rossi’s first overseas distributor. In 1908, the business moved to nearby 12, St Paul’s Street, and relocated again to Mrieħel in 1985 after it outgrew its headquarters in the capital. This latest move coincides with a plan that will see the company run more efficiently and effectively as it prepares to expand further in the coming years.

“Our name is synonymous with the supply of high quality products and we feel proud to have been at the forefront of the markets in which we operate for nearly 150 years. This move into our new premises is the next logical step towards a future that promises to be exciting and challenging,” concluded Mr Zammit Cutajar.
