Several letters concerning the proposed Spinola Bay controversial speculations appearing in The Times recently provoked my curiosity regarding a humble historical site which presumably contains, or used to contain, a number of cisterns for the purpose of storing water in this locality during the period of the Knights which was known for its hunting grounds.

Interestingly neighbours close to this site still refer to it as Il-Bjar ta’ Napuljun.

I would appreciate all possible information readers might have about the site – which may refer to Napoleon Bonaparte’s plan to provide his ships with water on the way to Egypt in June 1798. However I would appreciate much more the authority’s concern about the possible historic heritage the area may be preserving before it could be destroyed.
