Blackburn relegated

Wigan Athletic beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 last night to secure their Premier League survival and condemn their beaten opponents to relegation from the Premier League.

Wigan’s Antolin Alcararaz scored with a header three minutes from time to end Blackburn's 11-year stay in the top flight after a dismal season in which they have won just eight of their 37 league matches.

Rovers joined Wolves in dropping to the championship as Wigan climbed to 15th , securing their top-flight status with one game left.

Bolton or QPR will join Wolves and Blackburn in the championship next season.
