A fund-raising marathon in aid of Puttinu Cares raised €925,000 amid celebrations at the Marsa sports grounds.
The marathon, consisting of 60 hours of non-stop football and volleyball, started on Friday with the kick-off being given by President George Abela. Puttinu Cares helps relatives of young patients needing medical treatment in London by providing accommodation for them.
It recently bought a property in Sutton, which it is in the process of converting into a number of apartments for Maltese families to enjoy free lodging while their relatives are undergoing treatment in hospital.
The total cost involved amounts to about €3 million, €700,000 of which was collected during a similar event last year.
