ATHLETICS: British sprinter Dwain Chambers will compete against world record holder Usain Bolt over 100m at this month’s Golden Spike event in Ostrava. Chambers, who is now eligible for selection for the London 2012 Olympics after the British Olympic Association’s lifetime ban for drugs cheats was ruled non-compliant, had been invited to the May 25 event prior to that verdict being reached by the Court of Arbitration for Sport this week.
SWIMMING: Investigations into the death of Norwegian world champion swimmer Alexander Dale Oen are continuing after an autopsy found no conclusive cause of death. The 26-year-old breast-stroke champion was found dead in the shower at a training camp in Flagstaff, Arizona on Monday evening. An autopsy was carried out by the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office in midweek but proved inconclusive.
HORSE RACING: Camelot is a short-priced favourite to succeed the great Frankel in today’s 2,000 Guineas and provide his Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien with a sixth success in the English classic. Camelot assumed command of the ante-post market after following up his debut win at Leopardstown last July with an im-pressive success in his only other start, the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in October.
BASKET, NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder humbled Dallas Mavericks 95-79 yesterday, pushing the reigning champions to the brink of elimination in the first round of the NBA Western Conference play-offs. Kevin Durant scored 31 points to lead the Thunder, who took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, and will try to complete the sweep tonight in Dallas. No team has rallied from a 0-3 deficit to win a best-of-seven post-season series.
