Defiled girl who became his wife

A man has been found guilty of defiling his own wife when she was just 14.

He was 20 when they started a sexual relationship. They had met at the Chalet in Sliema in 2008, started dating and had their first sexual encounter down on the rocks in Qui Si Sana.

Other encounters happened on the beach in Balluta and in a friend’s flat in Ġzira, the court heard.

They later broke up and the girl dated someone else but they soon got back together again and eventually got married.

Her parents had not approved of the relationship because of the man’s reputation as a bad boy and a “bully”.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani said that the girl was still a virgin when the couple first had sex. This meant defilement had taken place as was evident from the way she testified. The girl said that after she lost her virginity she felt confused, worried and scared.

The man, who cannot be named, was jailed him for two years suspended for four. The magistrate took into consideration that both were young and the girl’s parents had asked her not to hand down an effective jail term.
