Fans of Pink Floyd have a chance to relive the legendary band once again this summer as their most famous tribute show returns to Malta.

People of Malta...really know their Floyd...that makes being part of the audience there such a pleasure

The Australian Pink Floyd will be rocking the Granaries in Floriana on July 14 as part of their Exposed In The Light world tour.

It will be the band’s third time on the island: they gave a successful concert in 2005 and performed here as part of the Jazz and Rock Festival in 2007.

However, this year’s two-hour show promises to be a bigger and better event, complete with a spectacular laser show.

Founded in 1988, Australian Pink Floyd have been hailed as “the best tribute band of the world” by The Sunday Times of London and have performed at sold-out shows all over the globe.

Pink Floyd guitarist and singer David Gilmour had attended one of their performances and subsequently invited them to play at his 50th birthday party in 1996.

Tickets for the Malta concert are already out. There are general standing and VIP tickets and a VIP corporate section. Early bird tickets are available until May 12.

Organisers Malta Jets Ltd and GS Marketing hope the event will help market Malta as a holiday destination for the younger generations.

“Malta needs to change its image and perception,” said GS Marketing director Gaito Steer at the concert’s launch.

Michael Zammit Tabona, owner of Jets Ltd, shared the same view.

“We want to help change the perception of our island as just an ideal vacation for elderly people,” he emphasised.

Mr Steer said late holiday bookings are this year’s trend and there’s a lot of capacity left for July. So the two companies are working extensively with British tour operators to attract visitors specifically for this event.

A British fan, who apparently already paid heed to their call and is attending the July concert, wrote on the tribute band’s official website forum: “I know from experience that the people of Malta are big fans of Pink Floyd and they do really know their Floyd... that makes being part of the audience there such a pleasure.”
