The hunting federation intends to press for charges against a German bird protection organisation claiming its members were being “harassed”.

The development comes after a remote controlled small aircraft operated by the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) was shot down near Marsascala on Thursday.

The federation said it would claim hunters were being filmed without their consent.

“This is not about hunting. This is about us being Maltese and proud of it. We should be able to hunt legally without foreign provocation from this German charade,” hunters’ federation secretary Lino Farrugia said.

He said the FKNK was prepared to elevate the matter to EU level if need be.

CABS said the remote controlled plane had proved to be useful revealing various trapping sites.

The Munich-based CABS have sent 10 bird guards to Malta to monitor migration and hunting during the controversial spring hunting season.
