HSBC Malta lowered its energy use last year by nearly six per cent over the previous year, which is equivalent to a reduction of nearly 300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
Through its €8 million branch refurbishment programme, the bank revamped its Valletta head office, installing energy-saving technologies.
The new head office features LED lighting, energy recovery ventilators and inverter drives on its air-conditioning units and lift.
The bank’s operations centre in Qormi also reduced its energy consumption by almost sevenper cent. About 700 halogenlamps were replaced with LED equivalents.
Energy-saving features were also installed at the Mosta and Birkirkara branches. HSBC makes full use of its rain water reservoirs, utilising 950,000 litres of second class water for toilets.
