Why does Lawrence Gonzi keep repeating the fable that “the government created 20,000 jobs” in these last four years or so?

Dr Gonzi considers that the merit for any job created by hardworking entrepreneurs or business people belongs to him and his government. However, when businesses close and employees lose their jobs, he and his government have nothing to do with it!

The truth of the matter is that every year thousands of people either change their job or retire from work on reaching retirement age, etc. The people who fill the jobs vacated are being considered by Dr Gonzi as “new jobs” when, in fact, those jobs would already have existed.

Unless Dr Gonzi gives the official breakdown of the figures he quotes, all his talk about the “20,000 new jobs” is hogwash.

Maybe one day the Prime Minister will explain why the 5,600 to 7,000 jobs he and his minister of failures, Austin Gatt, had said would be created at SmartCity by the end of last year are nowhere to be seen, except for the relatively few construction workers on site.
