A 23-year-old man from Marsa was this morning jailed five years – three of them for trafficking and being in possession of about 45 grammes of cocaine with the intent to sell.
The man is not being named to protect the identity of a 10-year-old boy who was involved.
The boy fled the crime scene on Sunday and was found carrying the cocaine when he was caught by the police.
The man also admitted committing the crime within 100 metres of a school or youth centre, relapsing and breaching the conditions of a two-year suspended jail term, which has now come into effect.
The police arrested the man and his 21-year-old girlfriend, who is the boy's sister. She will, however, not be arraigned as the man took full responsibility.
The matter was referred to Appogg but sources said the boy had not been involved in the trafficking but was given a bag and told to run.
