Ten Nigerian migrants escaped from the Ħal Far detention centre on Sunday night after managing to saw through an iron bar and then jump through a window.

Four of the migrants were recaptured yesterday morning by detention services officers who also embarked on a search of the tools used in the break-out. Another two Nigerians escaped last Wednesday and are still on the run.

The group of Nigerians were transferred to Ħal Far from the Safi centre last week in preparation for their deportation after their request for protection status was turned down, a spokesman for the centre said.
