Malta's double trap shooters William Chetcuti and Nathan Lee Xuereb failed to qualify to the final barrage in a World Cup shoot held in London today.

The ISSF competition is being held at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolston, London, venue of the 2012 Olympic shoot on August 2.

Chetcuti, who last month won a silver medal in a World Cup shoot in Tucson, US, and Xuereb just missed out on a place in the final barrage by a mere three points after both totalled 136 clays from 150 to finish 15th and 16th respectively.

Chetcuti failed to recover from a slow start when he compiled 44 in the first round before showing significant improvements when hitting two identical scores of 46 in the final two qualifying rounds.

Xuereb, 15, started brightly when he hit scores of 46 and 47 in the first two rounds but his hopes of making the barrage were shattered when he hit a modest 43 in the final round.

Russia's Mikhail Leybo took gold after winning a shoot-off with Italy's Francesco D'Aniello after both shooters had ended tied on 188 points.
