Firework displays are being held in various parts of Malta and Gozo this week and next week in connection with the Malta International Fireworks Festival.

The festival started yesterday with an eight minute pyromusical show by FireOne Malta in collaboration with St. Nicholas Fireworks Factory of Siggiewi at the Excelsior Hotel following the welcome reception launching the International Symposium on Fireworks conference being held in Malta.

The following is the rest of the programme:

TODAY     

9.45 – 10.30 pm   Mdina   -  Pyro-musical displays by Scarpato/PyroDigiT (Italy) and Mount Carmel Fireworks Factory of Zurrieq, Malta.  

WEDNESDAY  

6.30 p.m. to 11 p.m.  Mellieha – A variety of traditional and unique Maltese fireworks (including daylight and night multi-break fireworks and mechanised ground fireworks held amidst a Maltese festa ambience). Sixteen Maltese fireworks factories are participating.

THURSDAY   

9 pm. to 10.30 p.m.   St. Paul’s Bay / Bugibba Promenade

A variety of Maltese Ground Fireworks that relate to the Chronological development of this form of pyrotechnic display from traditional Catherine wheels to mechanised pieces. Nine Maltese fireworks factories are participating.

FRIDAY        

10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Valletta Grand Harbour – Pyro-musical display by Pirico Fireworks (Italy), a unique demo display by Ugo Lieto Fireworks (Italy) and closing off with a grandiose pyro-musical finale by Lourdes Fireworks Factory (Qrendi Malta), winners of the Malta International Fireworks Festival 2011.

SATURDAY     

7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Gharb, Gozo  - Traditional Maltese aerial and ground firework displays by Gozitan pyrotechnic factories. (This event is being held concurrently with the village fete known as Seher il-Punent

SUNDAY          

The Valletta Grand Harbour - MIFF Competition of Pyro-musical displays. (DAY ONE)

9 p.m.  Pyro-musical display by Apogee Fireworks of Canada

9.30 p.m. Pyro-musical display by Phoenix Fireworks of the UK.

10 p.m. Pyro-musical display by Jost Fireworks of Austria.

MONDAY  30th April    

The Valletta Grand HarbourMIFF Competition of Pyro-musical displays. (DAY TWO)

9 p.m. Pyro-musical display by St Michael’s Fireworks Factory of (Lija) Malta.

9.30 p.m. Pyro-musical display by Mirnovek Fireworks of Croatia.

10 p.m. Pyro-musical display by Surex Fireworks of Poland.

TUESDAY 1st May The Valletta Grand Harbour –

9.30 p.m. Final Grand pyro-musical display by Parente Fireworks of Italy. 

The festival is organised by the Ministry for Tourism, Culture and the Environment and the Malta Tourism Authority.
