An NGO was recently set up to restore books at the National Library as well as promote the use of local lending libraries.

The first such initiative is a series of storytelling sessions in association with the National Book Council at the Central Library in Floriana, for children up to the age of seven.

The storytellers, who have all volunteered, will be reading books in either Maltese and English on alternate weeks, with these free sessions starting at 4 p.m.

No booking is required.

The initiative is driven by New Leaf, a non-profit, voluntary organisation.

The first event takes place on Friday with a storytelling session narrated by local author Pierre Mejlaq.

Those interested in becoming storytellers, or would like more information on volunteering for New Leaf’s projects in general, may contact Monique Chambers on 9989 1722 or via http://facebook.com/newleafmalta .
