It was reported that after long delays, the road at the Cospicua Dock No. 1 project would be ready to allow the Easter Sunday procession with the statue of the Risen Christ could go through. The speed of delivery cost the taxpayer an extra €65,000.

The truth is that those responsible for this road do not have the slightest idea how to build roads and pavements to combine beauty, aesthetics and efficiency for handling of vehicles, pedestrians and rainwater.

For over 25 years people have developed complete software solutions for surveying and mapping, and the theodolite was an instrument used by many people to build good roads.

Land surveyors, construction professionals and civil engineers using total stations, Global Positioning System, and data collectors use desktop and handheld software to increase efficiency and productivity.

Even a sextant could also have helped in this case!

Starting at St Theresa church, the incline of both the road and the pavement are wrong, and so ugly.

Reaching Il-Weffi shop the pavement is too inclined towards the road and the road itself has the wrong inclination. Instead of running towards the dock rainwater runs towards the shops and underground pipes must be used to return rainwater back to the sea.

The pavement’s pebbled surface is hurting some elderly people’s feet and causing some to fall. People using high heels are also finding some difficulty to walk on it.

The road surface itself undulates, rising and falling heavily in a short space, while the concrete edge separating the road and the pavement is not exactly a smooth curve.

The rise and fall of this road makes it ugly and the hump in front of the band club shows clearly that the civil engineer and the contractor has not used a theodolite.

The people of Cospicua deserve much better engineering!

The works adjacent to the dock are raising the surface higher than the road and it has an ugly effect. The trees have been cut down and all we have now is dust and inconvenience.

I am absolutely disgusted with the irresponsibility shown all along this short stretch of road, including what are claimed to be ‘parking facilities on the pavement’.

Incidentally, another silly idea is to take down the see-through fence surrounding Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, and replace it with a solid stone wall.

This is creating the effect of a prison for both the people at Mcast and the drivers along that stretch of road from the roundabout to Għajn Dwieli.
