The Consumer Affairs Council will be organising a half-day conference on Thursday from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hotel Dolmen, Qawra.

Following the recent amendments to the Consumer Affairs Act, a new function has been added to provisions pertaining to the council.

This new provision provides that the council shall act as a forum for those public authorities that deal with conflicts between traders and consumers or safeguard consumer rights.

The aim of this forum is to establish better collaboration with the various authorities to further the welfare of consumers.

This conference, which is being held in collaboration with various authorities and speakers from the Broadcasting Authority, the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority, Malta Environment and Planning Authority, Malta Resources Authority, Malta Tourism Authority and Transport Malta, is intended to increase awareness about the role of these entities in protecting and advising consumers in respect of the market sectors falling under their respective responsibility.

The conference will be opened by Minister for Fair Competition Jason Azzopardi. A certificate of attendance will be given to all participants. A light lunch will be served afterwards.

Attendance is free. Early registration is advisable as seats are limited.

E-mail cacouncil@gov.mt or call Cecilia Testa on 2395 2751 by not later than Tuesday.
