The group KulTural has won this year’s edition of L-Għanja Tal-Poplu festival with the song Malta Tiegħ’. The lyrics and music were also by the group.

Song-writer Emil Calleja Bayliss and composer Dario Bezzina placed second with their song Tal-Komma Twila, sung by Grecia Bezzina.

The group Kantilena won third place with the song ‘Baħħâr’, with lyrics and music by Drinu Camilleri who also won the award for Best Singer-songwriter.

Singer-songwriter Rita Pace won the award for Best Social Theme with her song Kwadru jew Tond. The best Interpretation award went to Gozitan singer Maria Debono who sang Mhux Illum, accompanied on piano by Laurence Zammit.

The group Mistura who interpreted the song Isma’ Bilfors won the award for Best New Talent which was presented by the World Association of Festivals and Artists (WAFA).

All entries were performed live  and accompanied live with the participation of around 95 musicians and singers.

The 2012 Għanja tal-Poplu festival was held with the collaboration of the Malta Arts Fund and WAFA.
