An Avengers superhero event will be held in Valletta tomorrow ahead of the local premiere of The Avengers Hollywood blockbuster on Thursday.
Tomorrow’s event – ‘Science Fiction vs Science Fact’ – will aim to provide insight into the science behind The Avengers’ super powers.
It will also explore how these superheroes became part of popular culture, going from comic book characters to stars of the silver screen.
Since the 1960s, Marvel’s caped crusaders such as Ironman, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye have captured the imagination of the young and the young at heart.
At tomorrow’s event, sci-fi film buff Justin Camilleri will go head to head with scientist James Ciarlo and astronomy enthusiast David Pace to explore the origins and popularity of The Avengers.
The speakers will also discuss the science behind creating a super soldier like Captain America, turning a man into The Hulk and the mysteries of Thor’s universe.
There will be a quiz competition with questions linked to the discussion and also a costume competition. The winners will receive tickets to watch a screening of The Avengers in 3D.
The Avengers – Science Fiction vs Science Fact, organised by Euro Media Forum and Science is Culture in collaboration with Eden Cinemas, will be held tomorrow at the Italian Cultural Institute, St George’s Square, Valletta, at 7 p.m. Entrance is free.
