A man who cultivated 16 cannabis plants in his field has been jailed for three years and fined €1,000.

Johann Mifsud, 34, of Żebbuġ, pleaded guilty to cultivating the plant and being in possession of the drug not for his exclusive use last Tuesday.

He also admitted to possession of heroin.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti asked the prison director to help Mr Mifsud with his drug addiction. Police Inspector Jesmond J. Borg prosecuted.

Lawyer Mark Busuttil appeared as legal aid.
