The German-based Committee against Bird Slaughter (CABS) will send 10 bird guards to Malta to monitor migration and hunting.

The guards will record the trapping and shooting of protected species throughout the spring hunting season, as well as check whether hunters comply with strict restrictions and bag limits.

For the first time, CABS will this season have a permanent bird guard presence in Gozo.

Hunters will be allowed to shoot 11,000 turtle doves and 5,000 quails throughout the season.
