A man was seriously injured when he was hit by shotgun pellets in the outskirts of Għajnsielem yesterday at about 1 p.m.

The police are not excluding the possibility that the accident was related to hunting, police sources said.

They said they had questioned a number of persons to try and establish what happened.

It is understood that the victim, a 35-year-old from Għasri, does not know from where the pellets came or who fired the shot.

The police said he was in a field in Cordina Street, near the Għajnsielem cemetery, when he heard a shot and moments later realised that he had blood on his face.

He went to the Gozo hospital and was treated for serious injuries.
