La dolce vita
Perfect for family holidays or romantic lakeside getaways
Romantic Lake Garda is one of northern Italy’s most popular tourist destinations, ideal for couples or family holidays.
Travel on an old-fashioned steamer and breathe in the fresh mountain air, or dive straight into the crystal-clear water
Visitors can admire the breathtaking beauty of the mountains plunging into the pristine water, while kids will never grow tired of the wide range of water-sports and well equipped holiday resorts.
The largest of the Italian lakes, Lake Garda stretches between the mountains of the Alps and the Dolomites. With over 120 beaches, a great selection of walking routes, vibrant town centres and opportunities for day trips to the picture-perfect cities of Verona and Venice, visitors often find there is never enough time tick all the boxes on one holiday, which is why they often return for more.
Of course, there is also the famous Gardaland, Italy’s largest and best theme park which could keep the whole family entertained for days.
Little ones will love Gardaland’s Fantasy Kingdom, with its Toy Town and the tree house of Prezzemolo (the park’s much-loved mascot), while older visitors can brave the exhilarating Jungle Rapids and the formidable Blue Tornado. There are another two fantastic parks at Caneva World: Aquaparadise has lots of exhilarating water slides, while Movieland has stunt-packed action shows.
For something more refined, tour the vineyards in Bardolino. Bardolino wine is a light red, and the town has a popular wine festival at the end of the summer. Or visit Rocca Scaligera, a 13th century lakeside castle in Sirmione
And for a real taste of la dolce vita, take the train to Verona, just 40 kilometres away, or Venice, which is just over an hour and half away, and lose yourself exploring these magnificent cities.
Back at Lake Como, you can travel on an old-fashioned steamer and breathe in the fresh mountain air, or dive straight into the crustal clear water.
There is also a wide choice of shopping opportunities in the chic towns that surround the lakes, as well as sporting activities such as golf, water-skiing, mountain biking, horse-riding, parachuting and free climbing.
Like the rest of Italy, Lake Garda has its own treasure trove of tastes and dishes made from local produce that will have your stomach pining for more long after your holiday is over.
